Belton (Yr 1)

Welcome to Term 2 in Belton. We hope you had a great half-term break and we can't wait to hear what you have been up to.

We have been planning lot's of exciting lessons and activities for this term. Knowledge Organisers will be available for both our theme and for core subjects on Dojo.  These are a really useful tool to find out what the children are learning. Please do encourage your child to regularly review these at home - it is important that they all learn and understand this knowledge and have further opportunity to discuss it with you at home as will help them to be able to verbalise the knowledge they are learning.

We will be keeping parents up to date with our learning developments and giving general messages and reminders out on Class Dojo so do remember to check in frequently.

Belton Class will still be taught by Mrs Jagger and Mrs Griffin who will be teaching on the following days:

  • Monday - Mrs Jagger

  • Tuesday - Mrs Jagger

  • Wednesday morning - Mrs Jagger

  • Wednesday afternoon - Mrs Griffin

  • Thursday - Mrs Griffin

  • Friday - Mrs Griffin

This term our topic is 'Castles'. We will be exploring why castles were built and what castle life was like in the past. We will be visiting Oaham castle to gain first-hand experience of a real local castle and knowledge from the experts. As dragons often guard or attack castles, we have chosen exciting dragon stories to explore in our literacy lessons to help us interview a dragon and write instructions for catching a dragon. We will be creating castle collages based on work by Paul Klee. In RE we will be finding out about what it means to belong to a Jewish, Christian and Muslim faith. We will of course spend the last part of the term focussing on the meanings behind Christmas.

Reading is incredibly important in Year 1; please can you hear your child read 4 times a week. Your child will gain DOJO points and perhaps a silver or gold certificate for their hard work this term.

If you have any problems at all, please get in touch.
