Burghley (Yr 3)

Welcome to 2018 in Burghley Class. In Burghley this year we are lucky enough to have two teachers working with us. Mrs Jesson will be working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then Mrs Thomas will be working Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. There will be some time for both our teachers to meet on a Wednesday so that they can make sure all runs smoothly and Burghley is shipshape. We will also have the help of Mrs Chapman and Mrs Fowler at different times during the week.

This term, our theme is called ‘Swords and Sandals’.  We will be learning all about the Romans, what happened in Pompeii and re-telling the legend of Romulus and Remus.

As historians, we will be finding out all about Ancient Rome including how and where the Romans settled and how the Roman Empire grew.  We will find out all about Roman battles and what they did for leisure.  We will be evaluating the impact the Romans have had on us today.

As we study the Roman Empire, we will include map work using the skills from our previous terms geography and some new learning to enable us to name and label the countries that were involved.

We will super busy making mosaics and Roman shields ready for battle!

PE days will continue to be Tuesdays and Fridays.  However, please ensure children have their indoor and outdoor kits in school all week as this can change.

Another focus this term is ‘Healthy Living’.  As part of this, the children will be taking part in cooking a healthy meal, many activities linked to healthy eating and will also be set a Show What You Know homework linked to this.

This is another busy and exciting term.  Please may we take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support with homework including reading and spellings at home.  The children are desperate to achieve their target of having everyone in the class read at least four times per week!
