“Look back with pride and move forward with confidence”

Burghley (Yr 3)

In this section...

Burghley (Yr 3)

Burghley class continues to be taught by Mrs Dyer and is supported throughout the week by Mrs Fowler.  We've had some fabulous learning this year, made some great progress and are very proud of our achievements. We're looking forward to this term when we prepare ourselves for the year ahead.  Hopefully all of us will be graduating Burghley Class with 'flying colours' at the end of the term.

Our final Summer Term 6 theme is 'Bombs, Battles and Bravery'

As persuasive writers, we will be using our very well developed powers of persuasion to determine whether fidget spinners should be allowed in class (we know it's not theme related but very topical and we couldn't ignore the opportunity).

As playwriters, we will be developing our skills of writing monologues and dialogues for our class play called 'Shock in the Shelter'.

We shall also be writing instructions to keep our front safe as well as writing letters to our parents as we are evacuated from our families.

As Mathematicians, we will continue to develop our understanding of position and driection, or angles analysis and interpretation of graphs and data - all useful skills to continue our work in keeping the homefront safe and secure.

As Historians, we will discovering how our predecessors fought and won the war, including the important work of the women at war. Through roleplay we will try to understand the a day in the life of an evacuee.

In addition to all of the above, in RE we will continue to explore life as a Muslim, comparing the similiarities and differences between Islam and Christianity and how these can work together in today's world.

May I just remind all parents and carers that PE will now be on a Wednesday and Thursday and that the children’s favourite sports coach Matt will be teaching OUTSIDE this term, so could all children please have suitable kit, a water bottle as well as sunscreen applied daily.  The children will be learning racket skills, fielding skills as well as preparing for our annual sports day.

On a final note, I would like to mention that the children have already resumed their handwriting and cracking times tables interventions, led by Mrs Fenn. Thank you for your continuing support in helping your children in these two fields; the progress is really beginning to show in their work and is good preparation for their next academic year!
