Burghley (Yr 3)

Welcome back to Burghley Class as we embark on the first half of the Summer Term.

Theme for the Term: Europe

This term, our class is delving into the captivating theme of Europe. We have chosen two exciting Key Texts to both entertain and enrich our children’s writing skills. Our first text is the timeless classic ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll, where children will be honing their descriptive writing skills focusing on vocabulary and sentence structure.

In addition, we will be exploring ‘After the Fall’ by Dan Santat, encouraging children to write from a different character’s perspective, enhancing their creativity and storytelling abilities.

Our Geography focus this term will be on European Studies, where children will learn to locate countries and cities within Europe, comparing and understanding its diverse regions. They will research and describe the human and physical features of various European countries while mapping out climate zones and vegetation belts.

Furthermore, our Art classes will explore Abstract Painting, Textiles through Weaving and Tie-Dye techniques. In Religious Education, our focus will be on Jesus’ vision of the world and how today’s Christians strive to follow his teachings.

In Science, children will delve into the fascinating world of light sources, understanding the importance of light for sight. They will investigate shadows, reflective materials, and how to protect ourselves from the sun.

Maths will cover Fractions, where children will deepen their understanding of fractions, decimals, and ordering fractions. Time will also be a key focus, progressing from the hour to telling time to the nearest minute.

We are excited about the enriching educational journey this term holds for our young learners. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education.

Stay Informed with Knowledge Organisers

To keep you well-informed about the subjects and topics your child will be delving into, we will regularly update knowledge organisers on Class Dojo. These organisers will provide an overview of the learning activities and objectives happening in our class. We encourage you to take advantage of these resources to engage in discussions with your child, as this engagement will aid in transferring knowledge to their long-term memory.

Summer Term 5 Overview

For more detailed information about the subjects and areas of study covered this term, please refer to the Spring Term overview provided below. This document contains insights into all the exciting learning opportunities we have planned for your child.

Cultivating a Love for Reading

We strongly believe in the power of reading and its ability to inspire and educate. In line with this belief, we kindly request that your child engages in reading activities at least four times a week. Please make a note of these reading sessions in their reading record. This practice will not only enhance their reading skills but also foster a genuine love for reading.

Stay Connected with Class Dojo

We will continue to utilise Class Dojo as a platform to keep you updated on your child's learning journey. This space will also serve as a means to communicate essential messages and reminders. We encourage you to 'Like' and comment on the posts, as your engagement further supports the classroom community.
