Belton (Yr 1)
We hope your half term break was filled with fun and sunshine!
For our final term we will be exploring the seaside!
Mrs Ross and Mrs Jagger will be taking the class until 17th June. After that Mrs Tharme will be returning from her maternity leave to take Year One full time.
We will be discussing texts such as Seaside poems, The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch, Floatsome and At the beach. From these texts we will be focusing on writing stories, descriptions, riddles, letters and postcards alongside making leaflets for sun safety and non-chronological reports in response to our trip to Hunstanton Sea Life Centre.
As Historians we will be investigating seaside holidays from the past, what the bathing costumes were like, where people went on holiday, what people did on holiday, what is a hokey pokey, how they travelled there and how these seaside resorts have changed.
In science we will be exploring the seasons we share in a typical year in the UK. What are the weather patterns, how our environment changes and why?
As artists we will be creating our own under the sea pictures using wax resist techniques and also coiling paper to create our own quilled creatures. We will be choosing the best materials to make an aquarium collage inspired by our trip to the Sea Life Centre.
In RE we will be considering what Christians think about God and exploring some features of a religious life. We will be reflecting on our lives and the relationships we have, alongside recognising that prayer is a way religious believers can communicate with God. To celebrate World Faith Day, we will be looking at Christian Weddings and we will plan and role play our own in the Church.
Developing a range of multi skills in preparation for sports day is our focus for P.E this term. This will include running, throwing at a target, and hurdles.
For further information of the subject area coverage please see the Belton Class page on the website.
Please could we remind you to check your child’s PE kit is still clearly named and in school every Monday.
As the weather gets warmer could you to provide a hat for your child. We ask that you apply sun cream at home which will last for the duration of the day as we kindly ask you not to send sun cream into school.
Finally, we are really urging you to hear your child read 4 times a week and sign their reading record. It really makes such an amazing difference. Your child will be awarded a ‘Ram’ and house points if their reading record is signed four times a week. We also ask that you continue to help your child read and solve the alien words using their phonic knowledge skills each week. This will help to prepare them for the upcoming ‘Phonics Test’ in June.
Many thanks for all your support over the previous terms. If there are any questions please make an appointment to come in and see us, or catch one of us at the door.
Many thanks Belton Class Team
